Singer Chinmayi Sripaada expressed her disapproval on Thursday towards a social media user who expressed regret over the lack of 'virgin girls' available for Indian men to marry. The singer condemned the focus on a woman's virginity and highlighted the double standards inherent in this expectation, which is predominantly directed at women.

Chinmayi Sripaada slams Twitter user

On Wednesday, January 1, a Twitter (now X) user by the handle @venom1s stated, "The CEO of Blinkit has just announced that 120,000 parcels of condoms were delivered last night. This figure pertains solely to Blinkit. Other e-commerce platforms and market sales could reach as high as 10 million. Best of luck finding a virgin girl to marry in this era." Chinmay subsequently shared a screenshot of the now-deleted tweet, commenting, "Then men should refrain from engaging in premarital relations with women. Unless those men are involved with goats, dogs, or reptiles."

In response to another social media user who labelled Chinmayi a 'clown' for her viewpoint and asserted that women should also abstain, the singer retorted: "Women are not the ones fixated on ‘VIRRRRRGIN’. Women generally presume that men have been sexually active and do not even consider inquiring whether you have engaged in safe or unsafe sex," she remarked on Thursday, further stating, “It appears that the incel community believes they have irreparably tainted a woman once they have sexual relations with her. This suggests that men must be some sort of affliction from which a woman who chooses to be intimate never fully recovers, causing other men to be apprehensive. I wonder what that entails.”

Chinmayi gets support online

The vocalist received backing from social media users, a significant number of whom condemned the initial tweet for its presumptions. One individual inquired, "What leads him to believe that men are not purchasing condoms for sexual relations with their own spouses?" Another remarked, "Does this individual have an issue with people engaging in safe and responsible sexual practices?" In response to the negativity she had encountered online, the singer limited the replies to her tweets.
