Actor Bobby Deol received a ton of praise for his role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal. The director of the film recently shared some insights into his creative approach, explaining that he intentionally chose to make Bobby's character both hearing and speech impaired.

In a chat with trade expert Komal Nahta, Sandeep shared his insights on creating Bobby’s character for the film. Bobby received tons of acclaim for his role in Sandeep's Animal, which also starred Ranbir Kapoor as the main villain, Abrar Haque.

Sandeep pointed out, “We’ve seen plenty of movies where the hero and villain just trade insults over the phone or engage in endless banter.” He decided to break that mold by completely ditching that concept.

Bobby makes his entrance much later in the film, allowing the first half to dive deep into Ranbir's character and showcase his strong bond with his father, played by Anil Kapoor.

Elaborating on Bobby’s character, Sandeep mentioned, “Since we’ve seen so many of those back-and-forth exchanges in films, I thought it would be interesting to portray him as a deaf and mute character. The idea of a deaf-mute person battling it out in the climax was just thrilling.”

The action-drama featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol received some backlash for its violent scenes and supposed misogynistic themes. Notable figures like Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut didn't hold back in criticizing the film. It hit theaters in December 2023. Still, despite the negative reviews, Animal turned out to be a huge hit, raking in over ₹900 crore globally.

The plot centers around Ranvijay Singh, the son of a wealthy industrialist, who struggles with his father's expectations. Things take a dark turn when he seeks revenge after an assassination attempt on his dad. Sandeep and Ranbir are set to team up again for the sequel, called Animal Park. In the meantime, Sandeep is working on his next project, Spirit, which will be his first time collaborating with Prabhas.
