In Dinakar Thoogudeepa’s forthcoming film, Royal, while Viraat takes center stage as the protagonist, the role of the mother is equally significant. Chaya Singh, who recently appeared in Bhairathi Ranagal, portrays the character of Seetha, a casting choice that Dinakar is pleased proceeded smoothly.

When the director began the search for an actress to fill this role, he was determined to avoid casting someone typically associated with maternal characters. “I sought an actress who had not previously taken on such a role but could still effectively communicate the film's essential messages. When Chaya ma’am’s name was suggested, producer Jayanna was equally excited, having collaborated with her on his film Mufti,” Dinakar explains.

Dinakar Thoogudeepa did not think Chaya Singh would agree to do Royal so easily

Dinakar Thoogudeepa initially doubted that Chaya Singh would readily accept the role in Royal. The director and his team presented the narrative to her, and to their surprise, she expressed her willingness to join the project. This response was unexpected for Dinakar, who anticipated that she might defer her decision and ultimately decline. “Chaya ma’am remains incredibly glamorous and could easily play a heroine, so I was uncertain if she would agree to portray the mother of the hero. However, she accepted the role and has truly excelled,” he remarks.

Dinakar notes that Chaya’s performance contributes significantly to the film's most memorable scenes, stating that even alongside a formidable actor like Achyuth Kumar, she has managed to outshine him. “Her performance was so captivating that I often forgot to call ‘cut’ during the scenes. I was so entranced by her acting that I found myself fixated on the monitor,” he adds.

Royal, which features Sanjana Anand and Raghu Mukherjee in key roles, is set to premiere in theaters on January 24. It will face competition from Rishi’s Rudhra Garuda Purana and the ensemble film Foerst, which includes Aniish, Gurunandan, Chikkanna, Rangayana Raghu, and Archana Kottige, among others.
