Blake Lively's colleagues from her 2005 coming-of-age film, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, continue to stand by her side. Following her allegations against director Justin Baldoni regarding harassment and the initiation of a smear campaign related to her film It Ends With Us, Lively's co-stars—America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel, known for their roles in Barbie—have collectively expressed their support for her.
Blake's fellow cast members' remarks.
The joint statement released on their Instagram accounts expressed, "As Blake's friends and sisters for over two decades, we stand united with her as she confronts the alleged campaign aimed at tarnishing her reputation."
"During the production of It Ends with Us, we witnessed her summon the bravery to advocate for a safe working environment for herself and her colleagues on set. We are dismayed to learn of the calculated and malicious efforts that followed to undermine her voice," it continued.
Blake's co-stars asserted that "the most distressing aspect is the blatant exploitation of the narratives of domestic violence survivors to silence a woman who sought safety. The level of hypocrisy is remarkable."
"We are deeply affected by the truth that even a woman as strong, esteemed, and well-resourced as our friend Blake can encounter severe backlash for simply requesting a secure workplace. We draw inspiration from our sister's bravery in standing up for herself and others," they concluded.
Blake versus Justin.
In her legal filing, Blake accused Justin and the studio of initiating a "multi-tiered plan" aimed at undermining her reputation following a meeting where she and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, discussed "repeated sexual harassment and other troubling conduct" by Justin and a producer associated with the film.
According to the complaint, this plan involved strategies to disseminate theories on online forums, orchestrate a social media campaign, and publish negative news articles about Blake.
The complaint alleges that Justin engaged publicists and crisis management professionals in a "sophisticated, coordinated, and well-funded retaliation strategy" intended to "bury" and "destroy" Blake should she choose to disclose her concerns about the work environment.
“To mitigate the risk of Ms Lively disclosing the truth regarding Mr Baldoni, the BaldoniWayfarer team devised, disseminated, and amplified content aimed at undermining Ms Lively’s credibility,” the complaint asserts. “They employed similar tactics to enhance Mr Baldoni’s credibility and suppress any unfavourable information about him.”
Additionally, the complaint states that Baldoni "suddenly shifted away from" the film's marketing strategy and "utilized domestic violence 'survivor content' to safeguard his public persona."
An attorney representing Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and its affiliates described the allegations as "entirely false, outrageous, and deliberately sensational." He countered Blake's claims of a coordinated effort, asserting that the studio "proactively" engaged a crisis manager "in response to the numerous demands and threats made by Ms. Lively during production."
He further stated that Blake threatened to refuse to appear on set and to abstain from promoting the film "if her demands were not satisfied." While the specific demands were not detailed in the statement, Lively's complaint enumerates 30 requests that she claims Justin and others consented to following their contentious discussion regarding her concerns about the hostile work environment.
Among these requests were: "no further display of nude videos or images of women" to Blake and others on set, as well as a prohibition on related discussions.
