Blake Lively Takes Legal Action to Prevent Release of Private Texts with Celebrity Friends: Report
16 days ago | 5 Views
Blake Lively's legal representatives made a compelling argument during a virtual court session on Thursday, seeking a protective order to stop Justin Baldoni from disclosing private text messages exchanged between Lively and her celebrity acquaintances. The current legal dispute has become increasingly personal, as Lively's attorneys voiced apprehensions regarding the possible public exposure of sensitive discussions that could harm her privacy and reputation.
Lively requests privacy of texts with other celebs
On Thursday, Meryl Conant Governski expressed during a hearing in Manhattan federal court, “There exists a considerable risk of irreparable damage if discussions with prominent individuals, who are not pertinent to the case, were to be misappropriated.”
The attorney further stated, “There are 100 million incentives for these parties to disclose information, as the public relations benefits outweigh adherence to the court’s directives.” Additionally, the lawyer sought to establish an “Attorney’s Eyes Only” designation for sensitive materials, including the aforementioned texts and the medical records of the Gossip Girl alum.
In reply, Bryan Freedman, counsel for Baldoni, affirmed his agreement with the necessity of safeguarding Lively’s medical records and stressed that his team has “no intention” of breaching the court's confidentiality order. He remarked that the strategy proposed by Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, would unjustly differentiate “celebrity individuals” and “influential figures in the industry” from others, as reported by Page Six.
Baldoni’s lawyers assure third-party privacy
Freedman asserted that Baldoni’s legal representatives have “taken significant measures to avoid naming third parties,” further stating, “I believe the model order safeguards all parties involved.” He concluded by expressing, “We should not be placed in a situation where we are compelled to seek court intervention every time due to attorney’s eyes only protection … My client is entitled to defend themselves,” as reported by Page Six.
Judge Lewis J. Liman did not issue a ruling on the case during Thursday's proceedings, but emphasized that the court is "committed to upholding the rights of the public," with a final determination yet to be made.
