Blake Lively Reveals Filmmakers ‘Resented’ Her for Taking Creative Control in Resurfaced Video

In the context of her ongoing dispute with actor-director Justin Baldoni regarding It Ends With Us, as well as the legal battles currently unfolding between both parties, a previously circulated video has emerged featuring Blake Lively discussing her approach to creative control in her films. The clip, which was shared by TikToker stephwithdadeets, highlights Lively's acknowledgement that her active participation in the filmmaking process has occasionally resulted in friction with producers.

Blake Lively’s past comments on taking over films resurface

The actress known for her role in Gossip Girl attended the Forbes Power Women's Summit in 2022, where she discussed the challenges she faced in the industry. She noted that some professionals felt resentment towards her for asserting her creative ambitions, as they had initially hired her solely as an actress. In the early stages of her career, she often concealed her creative aspirations during meetings to secure acting roles.

Over time, she recognized the importance of advocating for her vision, even if it occasionally led to tension. “In meetings, I would present myself merely as an actor eager to land the role,” she stated. “I refrained from expressing my need for creative authorship to feel fulfilled. For some, this may have felt like an unexpected shift, as I was trying to assert myself in a capacity they hadn’t hired me for,” Blake Lively reportedly shared during the discussion.

She emphasized the necessity of standing firm in her vision while also understanding when to step back. “It is equally important to express, ‘I believe in this, and that’s why I am advocating for it, not because I am being difficult,’” she elaborated. “There are also times when I must reflect, ‘Am I the difficult one in this situation?’”

“It involves being transparent about what you genuinely need rather than simply aiming to secure the job and later disclosing the extent of your requirements for fulfilment,” she added.

The Justin Baldoni lawsuit: What’s going on?

Tensions between Lively and Baldoni have been prominent in the media since December 2024, when Lively initiated legal action against Baldoni. Her allegations include:

Claims that Baldoni fostered a “hostile work environment” that nearly jeopardized the production of It Ends With Us.

Accusations that Baldoni orchestrated a “smear campaign” targeting her.

Assertions that he improvised intimate scenes and subjected her to body-shaming on set.

In response, Baldoni has refuted all allegations, with his attorney describing them as “categorically false.” In January 2025, Baldoni countered with his lawsuit, targeting Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and her publicist Leslie Sloane. He is pursuing $400 million in damages, asserting that:

Lively and her associates “deliberately and systematically robbed” him and Wayfarer Studios of It Ends With Us.

He claims to have lost creative control over the film due to their interference.
