Actor Bhumi Pednekar has spoken out about the issue of gender pay gaps in Bollywood, pointing out that it's a challenge faced across all sectors, not just in film. She shared her experience of earning less than her male counterparts, even though they had similar accomplishments, but noted that the situation is improving.

During a chat with Bollywood Bubble, the actor opened up about the issue of gender pay inequality, stating, “This isn’t just a problem in cinema; it’s a problem across various industries. If you look at a CEO of a big company and she’s a woman, her salary is likely to be lower. When it comes to cinema, there’s definitely a significant gap.”

She acknowledged that male actors often earn more because they attract larger audiences, but she also pointed out that she has been paid less than male co-stars who are on the same level as her. “We often say that the actor who brings in more business deserves more pay, and that’s true. This isn’t about seniority. I’ve been in situations where I’ve achieved just as much as a male co-star, yet my pay was much lower. However, I’m optimistic because more producers who genuinely support equality are coming into the industry, and I can see the gap starting to close.”

Bhumi Pednekar's latest projects

Bhumi is currently featured in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, a romantic comedy directed by Mudassar Aziz. The film also stars Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh in the main roles. It hit theaters on Friday, February 22.

The movie got a mix of positive and average reviews from critics, especially for its humor. However, it didn't do so well at the box office, raking in only ₹1.50 crore on its opening day.
