Bhairathi Ranagal maker Narthan REVEALS why his film with Rocking Star Yash didn’t take off

It’s been 7 years since director Narthan’s debut film Mufti came out. The filmmaker had mooted the idea of a prequel to Mufti with Shivarajkumar’s character Bhairathi Ranagal as the central axis but didn’t get around to doing it for several years, because he was working on a script for Rocking Star Yash, which was thought to be the project the actor would do after KGF: Chapter 2.
In the nearly two years between the completion of KGF-2 and the announcement of what would eventually be #Yash19 – Toxic – Narthan’s name was among the frontrunners of filmmakers the actor was looking at collaborating with. But the Narthan-Yash project did not happen, which, in turn, delayed the start of Bhairathi Ranagal.
Why Narthan's film with Yash did not happen
Speaking to Kannada Pichhar, Narthan spoke about why it’s taken him 7 years to have another release. The filmmaker confirmed that he was indeed working on a script for Yash, but that it ended up being very similar thematically to a big film that had come out around that time. Obviously, they could not proceed with his script then, and if he were to start on a new one, it would take time, so, Narthan and Yash mutually decided to revisit plans of collaborating at a later stage.
In the meantime, given that Yash was also busy with a new film (Toxic), Narthan decided to work on Bhairathi Ranagal. How Shivarajkumar’s character, Ranagal, goes from being a law-abiding lawyer to becoming judge, jury, and executioner himself as a fearsome crime boss is what the filmmaker is set to present on November 15.
Bhairathi Ranagal has been produced by Geetha Shivarajkumar for Geetha Pictures. It was meant to be their first production venture, but since Narthan was tied up with the proposed Yash film, they did Vedhaa first.
