Jay-Z, the American rapper and businessman who is married to pop star Beyoncé, was accused of raping a 13-year-old in 2000 along with disgraced music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Jay-Z’s name was added to a refiled lawsuit on Sunday after the original was filed months earlier. While the rapper has vehemently denied any involvement, citing the victim’s attorney’s attempt to blackmail him, his mother-in-law Tina Knowles made some controversial social media reactions which she later clarified.
Tina Knowles reacts to Jay Z’s rape lawsuit
On Monday, a 70-year-old individual expressed approval for an Instagram post from ABC 7 Chicago News, which reported that the rapper had been accused of rape in a lawsuit. It was confirmed that Knowles’ official Instagram account not only followed the post but also indicated a "like." Shawn Corey Carter, professionally recognized as Jay-Z, was named in a civil lawsuit that was re-filed by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee on Sunday.
In his statement, Jay-Z responded to the allegations, stating, “My lawyer received a demand letter from a so-called lawyer named Tony Buzbee, who seemed to think that these serious accusations would pressure me to settle.” He conveyed his dismay regarding the necessity of discussing this matter with his children, including his teenage daughter.
“My wife and I will need to have a conversation with our children, one of whom is at an age where her friends will undoubtedly see the news and inquire about the nature of these allegations, and we must explain the cruelty and greed of individuals,” he remarked, as reported by PageSix.
Beyoncé’s mom clarifies she was hacked
Shortly after her reaction gained widespread attention, Knowles clarified that her social media account had been compromised. “As you all know, I do not tolerate any disrespect towards my family,” she stated in an Instagram post on Monday evening. “If you encounter anything that seems out of character for me… please understand that it is not from me!”
In her caption, Knowles urged, “Please cease this nonsense! ‘No weapon formed against my family shall prosper.’”
The Instagram post she engaged with featured the headline, “Breaking News: Jay-Z, Diddy Named in Lawsuit Alleging Rape of Girl, 13,” accompanied by an image of Carter and Combs.
Carter and Beyoncé were married in 2008 and are parents to daughter Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Rumi and Sir, 7.
What is the case against Jay Z?
The plaintiff in attorney Tony Buzbee’s lawsuit asserts that the rapper, along with Combs, sexually assaulted her following a VMA afterparty at a residence. She recounted her experience of attempting to gain entry to the VMAs in New York City on the night of the incident, where she was positioned outside among various celebrity chauffeurs. The lawsuit states that a limousine driver, who purportedly worked for Combs, extended an invitation to her for an afterparty.
The woman claims that upon her arrival at the afterparty venue, she was requested to sign a non-disclosure agreement. After receiving a drink, she alleges that she was drugged. The allegations further assert that she was restrained by Carter while he sexually assaulted her, with Combs and another celebrity observing. Following Carter's actions, he reportedly moved back against the wall, at which point Combs approached and also sexually assaulted the plaintiff while Carter and the other celebrity looked on.
“These accusations are so appalling that I urge you to pursue a criminal complaint rather than a civil one! Anyone who would perpetrate such a crime against a minor deserves to be imprisoned, would you not concur? These alleged victims would be entitled to genuine justice in such circumstances… You have made a grave misjudgment in assuming that all 'celebrities' are alike,” Jay Z remarked in response.
