Actor Ben Affleck may have millions in his bank account, but he is not allowing it to affect his children's upbringing. The actor has stepped up to justify his choice to refuse his son Samuel's plea for a $6,000 pair of sneakers.

Ben Affleck defends his actions

While appearing on an episode of Today with Jenna and Friends, the father of three and actor discussed his recent viral video where he criticized his teenage son, Samuel, 13, after he requested $6,000 Dior Air Force Ones. In addition to his son Samuel, Ben, whose estimated net worth is about $150 million, also has teenage children Violet, 19, and Fin, 16, with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.

Ben mentioned, “He wanted these sneakers, and I was like, ‘These sneakers are $6,000, what are you talking about? What are you going to do, mow lawns? You have $6,000? He responded, ‘We have the money. ’ I replied, ‘I have the money! You’re broke. ’”

During the discussion, Ben revealed that he “wants to give them everything” but thinks his kids “have to work” for the luxuries.

The actor stated, “You love your kids. You want to provide them everything and do all you can for them, but I feel you definitely do them a disservice by not connecting (if) you want something that you desire, you need to work for that. My oldest two have jobs. . . In fact, one recently got a job, a classic teenager working in a shop — I won’t disclose what it is. My older child, who’s in college, is working and trying to secure an internship for the summer. And yes, my 13-year-old son is facing that reality right now. He’s examining the situation with no shoes in his closet. Well, he has shoes, just not any outrageously expensive fancy shoes. And I say, ‘Well, if you want that, you can work 1,000 hours. ’ You know what I mean? Minimum wage. And after working 1,000 hours, you might not want to use that on a pair of sneakers. ”

During A visit to a sneaker convention in Los Angeles earlier this year with Samuel featured a parenting moment shared by the Oscar-winning actor. A set of $6,000 Dior Air Jordan 1s piqued Samuel’s interest. Upon his request for them, Ben promptly informed him that he wouldn’t be the one footing the bill. “That’s a considerable number of lawns you’ve got to mow there. You only like those because they’re pricey,” Ben remarked to his son. The clip became viral on social media.
