Even though she has received accolades for her depiction of Ellie in HBO's The Last of Us, actress Bella Ramsey has encountered her share of severe online backlash regarding her appearance. Numerous trolls have mocked her looks and pointed out that she resembles nothing like Ellie from the video games that inspired the series. Currently, in an interview, the 21-year-old actress has confessed that she allowed the fixation to affect her as well.

Bella Ramsey on not looking like Ellie

 In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress discussed how she became preoccupied with her appearance and how she lacked the muscle definition of Ellie. Bella stated, “But I became quite focused on the way that Ellie appears in the game and her physical presence and, to be precise, the muscle definition in her arms. And I didn’t look like that. My body type isn’t that. I spoke about this a lot with Craig (Mazin, the showrunner), and he never imposed that expectation on me. He aimed for me to appear strong and feel strong, and that was reflected in how I carried myself, my posture, and the confidence I possess. It was a struggle for me to allow myself to relax about not appearing as if I were computer-generated. ”

Bella disabled her social media accounts a few months ago, just before the promotions for The Last of Us season 2 commenced. Many attributed this to the unceasing trolling the actress faced regarding her depiction of Ellie. Reflecting on the choice, Bella remarked, “I always anticipated that I’d [deactivate] it eventually and didn’t really ever want to have social media at all. It wasn’t this major, dramatic decision, but there was a part of it that considered the upcoming release of season two. If I simply steer clear of Twitter and Reddit, which I am currently doing, then everything’s perfectly fine. ”
