Actors Neil Nitin Mukesh and Katrina Kaif wowed fans with their chemistry in the 2009 movie New York, but it turns out their working relationship had a bit of a bumpy beginning. In a recent interview, Neil shared that they didn’t hit it off right away.

Neil glances over his shoulder

In a chat with On Public Demand by Filmygyan, Neil reminisced about his early rivalry with Katrina while filming.

He shared, “When we first met, we were anything but friends; we turned into enemies right away. We were shooting our first scene together, and it felt like we were constantly at each other’s throats. She kept interrupting me, and I was just trying to figure out what the issue was.”

Neil continued, “Then I found out she had a problem with my skin tone. There was also something about how I was portraying my character. She was just messing around with me, but I was getting really frustrated because I was coming off an intense role in Johnny Gaddaar.”

He mentioned that he was constantly questioning if he was doing enough for the role and what he could do to improve things.

One day, after he finished a shot, Katrina snapped at him, which prompted him to confront her and sort things out. Eventually, he learned that she wasn’t actually mad at him; she was just nervous since she had mostly done comedies before. That’s when they cleared the air and became friends.

The film, produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, was directed by Kabir Khan and released in 2009. It also featured John Abraham and the late Irrfan Khan. Set in New York, the story unfolds over nine years, focusing on three young friends whose lives change dramatically after 9/11.

Neil's latest movie

Neil was last spotted in the hilarious action-comedy Hisaab Barabar. Directed by Ashwni Dhir, the movie features R Madhavan alongside Kirti Kulhari, Rashami Desai, and Faisal Rashid in supporting roles. The plot revolves around a railway ticket checker who stumbles upon some oddities in small bank transactions, eventually revealing a larger web of corruption. You can catch it streaming on ZEE5.
