Behind the Crown: Manushi Chhillar Opens Up on Her Toughest Role Yet
3 days ago | 5 Views
It has been three years since Manushi Chhillar made her debut in Bollywood with the historical film Samrat Prithviraj, and she continues to navigate the complexities of the film industry. In a recent interview, she revealed that choosing to pursue an acting career has posed the greatest challenge of her life. Manushi discussed her professional journey and the obstacles she currently faces.
Reflecting on her Bollywood experience, Manushi explained that after winning the Miss World 2017 title, she made the decision to enter the film industry, which required her to start anew and master a different skill set. She admitted that she has had to work hard to break free from her naturally reserved demeanor and to allow herself to be vulnerable on screen.
“The most significant challenge I am facing right now is my path as an actor. However, I was already engaged in work after winning Miss World, and transitioning into acting felt like returning to school and learning everything from the ground up. This has been the most considerable challenge I have encountered,” Manushi shared.
She further elaborated, “I have always excelled as a student, so I have recently redirected my efforts towards embracing this new craft and committing to my growth as an actor. Acting is a completely different discipline, and while everyone possesses their unique strengths, I have always been somewhat reserved and stoic. Openly expressing emotions has not come naturally to me. Nevertheless, one of the greatest obstacles I had to overcome was learning to be vulnerable in front of the camera and finding comfort in fully engaging with a character.”
On handling the pressure of living up to expectations
Upon entering Bollywood, Manushi took on projects like The Great Indian Family and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which, unfortunately, did not receive the anticipated reception following their release.
Manushi recognizes the significant expectations and scrutiny that accompany her career, yet she perceives these challenges as a motivating factor that encourages her to enhance her abilities.
"There are always elevated expectations, particularly when you come from a prestigious platform like Miss World. Numerous exceptional women from this pageant have gained international acclaim, not only in pageantry but also in acting. This naturally invites a certain degree of scrutiny. I regard these expectations as a constructive influence. They inspire me to aim higher and continuously improve. Instead of concentrating on external pressures, I prefer to focus on learning, honing my skills, and evolving as an actor. The most valuable approach I can take is to commit myself to my craft, work diligently, and develop as an artist," she expresses.
Regarding the fluctuations of the entertainment industry, Manushi acknowledges that show business has its peaks and valleys, but she remains grounded by prioritizing personal growth over external approval.
"Practices like yoga, meditation, and reading help me maintain balance, while my family and close friends provide essential support. Ultimately, I remind myself that my journey is centered on learning, evolving, and giving my utmost to my craft," shares the actress, who recently graced the runway in Mumbai as part of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour.
On her future work
Manushi has a number of projects scheduled for release this year. "I have two films set to premiere this year, along with another that I will begin filming soon. Regrettably, I cannot disclose their titles at this moment, but that is what I have in the pipeline regarding films. In addition, I am heavily involved in my brand, Dweep, which focuses on sustainable beachwear, and there is significant growth happening with Soma Wellness, my regenerative clinic," she concludes.
