Veteran Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, renowned for his role as Batman in Batman Forever, has passed away. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed that the 65-year-old succumbed to complications from pneumonia. The actor was at his residence in Los Angeles at the time of his death on Tuesday.

Val Kilmer passed away due to complications related to pneumonia, as confirmed by his daughter Mercedes in a statement to The New York Times. It is important to mention that Val was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and underwent treatment for it. Although he had recovered and continued to work, his health deteriorated when pneumonia exacerbated his condition.

Val Kilmer first appeared on screen in the 1984 film Top Secret!. Nevertheless, his most notable performance was as Batman in Batman Forever, which was directed by Joel Schumacher. This portrayal occurred during a period when Michael Keaton and George Clooney also took on the role of the legendary DC Comics character. In the film, Val Kilmer's Batman faced off against Two-Face, played by Tommy Lee Jones, and the Riddler, portrayed by Jim Carrey. Although this installment of the franchise followed Tim Burton's trilogy and did not receive significant attention, the actor did secure a role in another well-known franchise, having appeared in its original film.

Kilmer made his debut in Top Gun in 1986, where he competed with the franchise's leading star, Tom Cruise. Although the franchise continued to expand, Val Kilmer did not reprise his role in subsequent installments. He ultimately returned to the character in the 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick.
