Suriya, who was recently featured in Kanguva, has announced two new projects in collaboration with filmmakers Karthik Subbaraj and RJ Balaji. The production of these films is progressing rapidly. According to the latest reports, Suriya is anticipated to team up with Malayalam actor and director Basil Joseph for a new project, which is expected to be produced by Mammootty’s production company, Mammootty Kampany.

Is the Suriya-Basil Joseph project being produced by Mammootty?

There have been persistent rumors suggesting that Suriya is preparing to work with Basil Joseph, a well-regarded actor and filmmaker in Malayalam cinema known for his diverse selection of scripts. His recent works include Sookshmadarshini and Pravinkoodu Shappu, although he has been relatively inactive as a director since his last film, Minnal Murali, a superhero drama released in 2021 featuring Tovino Thomas.

While an official confirmation regarding the collaboration between Basil Joseph and Suriya has yet to be announced, there is considerable excitement surrounding the project, which is rumored to be supported by Mammootty’s Mammootty Kampany. If this collaboration comes to fruition, it will mark Suriya's first venture with Basil, who enjoys a significant fan following in Kerala.

Mammootty Kampany is recognized for producing high-quality content in Malayalam cinema, with notable films such as Kaathal: The Core and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakam.

Suriya’s Retro release date

Following his appearance in Kanguva, Suriya is set to star in Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, which is scheduled for theatrical release on May 1. The film features a talented cast, including Pooja Hegde, Joju George, and Jayaram, among others. Additionally, Suriya is working on Suriya 45 with RJ Balaji, which co-stars Trisha, Indrans, Swasika, Yogi Babu, and others, although a release date for this film has not yet been announced.

In contrast, Basil Joseph's film Ponman was released in theaters on January 30.
