Malayalam actor and filmmaker Basil Joseph is gearing up for his third film release of the year, following Pravinkoodu Shappu and PonMan. This time, he will feature in Maranamass, directed by debutant Sivaprasad, which is set to be one of three Vishu releases at the Kerala box office. The film is produced by Basil's close friend and fellow actor Tovino Thomas, while Sivaprasad previously served as an assistant director on Basil's directorial project, Minnal Murali. This connection, along with the film's genre, significantly influenced Basil's decision to participate in the project.

The concept was quite intriguing. It presents a dark comedy infused with satire and numerous references to pop culture. While it resembles a spoof-driven film, it does not fully fit that category. Instead, it is a highly exaggerated and humorous production, lacking the grounded realism typical of many films; it embraces an over-the-top style. "I thought it would be fantastic to create something outrageous," he remarked during his conversation with the Nona Prince podcast.

Regarding his character, Basil describes him as a troublemaker who would post listings for a police station on OLX, deeming it useless. "Luke is an eccentric individual who identifies as a sigma male," he explains, noting that the film's narrative primarily unfolds over the course of a single night. The central theme revolves around a small village gripped by fear of a serial killer and the police officer tasked with the investigation, he adds.

Basil emphasizes that the film does not focus solely on the hero's journey; rather, it encompasses the experiences of all characters involved. "It’s a collective adventure of everyone in the narrative," he clarifies. When discussing his approach to selecting roles as an actor, Basil noted that the filmmaker's conviction and clarity are crucial, in addition to the story and screenplay. "The amount of screen time and how much I can enhance my profile are not my priorities. My main desire is to be part of a quality film, where my character plays a significant role in making the plot engaging for the duration of two to two and a half hours," he states.
