She expressed her enthusiasm for embracing this trend and is keen to undertake a diverse array of roles that will push her boundaries as an artist.
On moving back to India
Banita, who has established herself in the Hindi film industry through notable works such as October and Sardar Udham, previously resided in Wales. She has now relocated to India.
Reflecting on her decision to return to India, Banita states, “Acting is my true passion, whether in international cinema or Bollywood. I have always aspired to live in India, but I needed to fulfil my work obligations in the UK before making the move.”
“It was only fitting for me to come to the country that has showered me with so much affection,” she continues, having recently delivered a remarkable performance as Miss Malhotra in Bridgerton season 3.
When inquired about any challenges faced during this transition, Banita readily responds, “India genuinely feels like home to me.” “I cherish my time here and feel fortunate to have built a strong sense of community throughout my career, which supports me now that I have relocated,” she concludes.
On her career moves
Since her introduction to the film industry in 2018 with the highly praised movie October, Banita has taken a careful and selective approach to her choice of projects. She expresses her dedication to pursuing roles that challenge her acting skills and enable her to delve into new dimensions as a performer.
"I consistently seek to push my boundaries in my work. Each project I undertake directs me toward a new path. I remain receptive to fresh ideas and opportunities that facilitate my growth, whether in critically acclaimed films or commercial ventures," she states.
Discussing her perspective on her role within the contemporary Indian film landscape, Banita emphasizes, "This is an excellent time for women in the Indian film industry, as a diverse array of roles is being created for them and by them, providing significant opportunities for performance."
When asked about her future endeavours, she replies, "I have several projects in development and am currently in discussions with producers and directors. Additionally, I have a film set to release next year, which I am genuinely looking forward to."
On seeking a balance
As Banita progresses in her Bollywood career, she remains acutely aware of the significance of achieving a healthy work-life balance.
"Establishing a routine is crucial for me. Given the extensive travel required for my work, it serves as my anchor. Since arriving in India, I have also been exploring meditation more deeply, especially at Akiko, which is managed by my friend Akshat Rajan. This practice has greatly assisted me in transitioning into this new chapter of my life," she concludes.
