Varun Dhawan's attempt at a big action flick didn't go as planned. His recent movie, Baby John, flopped hard and didn't even come close to making back its budget. While Varun hasn't said much about the film's poor performance, his co-star Rajpal Yadav has spoken out, sharing how Varun took the news.
Rajpal Yadav talks about the box office earnings of Baby John
In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal mentioned that Baby John was a "well-made film in every aspect," but it didn't succeed because it was a remake of the Tamil movie Theri. He stated, “If it hadn’t been a remake, it would have been the best film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay had already done it, the audience was familiar with it, and being a remake hurt its box office performance.”
Directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee, Baby John is a remake of Atlee's Theri, which featured Vijay in the lead role. The film, which also starred Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff, managed to earn less than ₹50 crore domestically, despite having a budget exceeding ₹180 crore.
When asked if Varun felt 'down' about Baby John's box office results, Rajpal quickly dismissed the idea. He added, “Varun is such a nice guy, really dedicated. He always aims to do something unique, and we should recognize his efforts because taking risks is a big deal.””
Rajpal Yadav in Baby John
Rajpal Yadav took on the role of Constable Ram Sevak, who works under Varun's character, DCP Satya Verma, in Baby John. Even though the film didn't get great reviews, Rajpal received some positive feedback, especially for a moment where he attempted action for the first time in his career.
