Actor Babil Khan, currently promoting his new film Logout, recently addressed the accusations that he has been using his father, the late actor Irrfan Khan's death, to boost his own acting career in an interview.
In a chat with Lallantop, Babil shared that he found himself thrust into the spotlight following Irrfan's passing, and he wasn't prepared for it. "When my dad passed away, all the attention suddenly turned to me. I wasn’t ready for that. But there’s one moment that really stuck with me. As my dad’s body was being taken from the hospital to the funeral, the streets were packed with fans—even during Covid. People didn’t care about the risks; they just wanted to say their goodbyes. It was incredibly emotional," Babil recalled.
Babil responds to allegations of exploitation
At that moment, the actor recognized that his sorrow wasn't just his; it was shared by countless people who cherished his father. He felt a strong urge to give back, so he began sharing memories of the Life of Pi star, hoping to keep his spirit alive for all those who admired the beloved actor. Unfortunately, not everyone saw his intentions as genuine; some questioned his motives.
"Some folks claimed I was exploiting my father's death to kickstart my acting career. If that were the case, I wouldn't still be auditioning today. I was simply sharing the love we received from everyone. I needed to honor that," the actor explained.
Babil's initiatives and ventures
Babil made his acting debut in Anvita Dutta's 2022 film Qala, which also starred Tripti Dimri and was released on Netflix. Following that, he appeared in Friday Night Plan, another Netflix movie directed by Vatsal Neelakanthan, alongside Juhi Chawla and Ninad Kamat in key roles.
Next up for Babil is Logout, a cybercrime thriller that explores the life of a social media influencer and our heavy reliance on smartphones today. Produced by Viacom 18 and directed by Amit Golani, this film is scheduled to premiere on ZEE5 on April 18. It also features Rasika Dugal, Nimisha Nair, and Gandharv Dewan in significant roles.
