Ayo Edebiri, the actor from The Bear, has criticized billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, for a tweet that appeared to spread misleading information regarding her casting in a Pirates of the Caribbean film. Edebiri stated that she has received "insane death threats" as a result of the false narratives propagated by Musk.

Ayo Ebediri slams Elon Musk

A right-wing account on X, the platform owned by Elon Musk, disseminated an unverified report claiming that Ayo Edebiri would be taking over Johnny Depp's role in a reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Musk subsequently retweeted this information, stating, "Disney sucks."

This week, Ayo responded to Musk's tweet on her Instagram Stories, labeling him a 'fascist' and an 'idiot' for spreading misinformation and placing her in a precarious position. She remarked, “I’m just recalling the time I received some of the most outrageous death threats and racial slurs of my life (I’m not sure if it’s the worst moment, but it’s definitely in the top three) due to a fake reboot of a film I had never even heard of, all because of this man. LMAO. So not only is he a double s**g h**l-ing [sieg heil-ing] fascist, but he’s also an idiot. But anyway.”

The rumour had not been carried by any mainstream Hollywood outlet or substantiated by any credible news source.

About the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise consists of five films, featuring Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Collectively, these films generated more than $5 billion in worldwide box office revenue. Plans for a sixth installment were halted due to Depp's legal issues with his former spouse, Amber Heard. In 2024, series producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced that a reboot is in development; however, no information regarding the cast or crew has been disclosed at this time.
