Ashutosh Rana: Adipurush Failed to Respect the Authenticity of Mythology
2 months ago | 5 Views
Actor Ashutosh Rana recently opened up about why he thinks Om Raut’s big project Adipurush didn’t succeed. In a recent chat, he mentioned that the film, featuring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, missed the mark on some basic elements of filmmaking.
Ashutosh Rana talks about Adipurush
Ashutosh chatted about Adipurush in a talk with SCREEN. During the interview, he was asked why big-budget films sometimes miss the mark with audiences, using Adipurush as an example.
He replied, “When tackling a grand subject, it’s crucial to pay attention to the craft’s real needs, like the dialogues, costumes, and the way things are presented. If we overlook these details, the audience won’t appreciate it. Whether it’s a movie, a play, or something on OTT, it only gets recognition when its emotions, language, costumes, and body language feel genuine. People are very sensitive about mythology and won’t tolerate any mistakes.”
He continued, “The TV series Ramayana received a lot of praise because they considered the actors’ appearances, the setting, and everything else. People should see Ravana in me, not Ashutosh Rana. Many films make the same error; the audience wants to connect with the character, not the actor, to truly feel the emotions.” He’s set to portray Ravan in the stage production, Humare Ram.
Ashutosh believes everyone is aiming to create “authentic content” and wants to know if their beliefs resonate with the audience. Still, he emphasizes the importance of respecting the sacredness of the subject matter.
Adipurush Overview
Om Raut’s ambitious retelling of the Ramayana was supposed to be a big hit, but it ended up flopping at the box office. Viewers were let down by the poor VFX, lackluster graphics, weak dialogues, and a dull storyline, especially those who were excited to see Prabhas and Kriti Sanon on screen. Some of the lines that got the most heat included ‘marega bete,’ ‘bua ka bagicha hain kya,’ and ‘jalegi tere baap ki.’ Even after making some tweaks to the dialogue post-release, the film still faced a ton of backlash online.
