Ashish Chanchlani seeks quashing of FIR in Assam
Ranveer is the primary accused due to his contentious remarks made during the YouTube program India's Got Latent. The petition is scheduled for consideration by a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh on Friday.
According to the report, Ashish, in his petition, has requested the annulment of the FIR filed at the Cyber police station of the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam. The petition states, "Quash the FIR bearing No. 03 of 2025 registered at Cyber PS Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam, as it was filed subsequently."
Ashish Chanchlani seeks transfer of FIR, alternatively
The YouTuber has requested the transfer of the FIR filed at the Cyber PS Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam, to the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Mumbai. This request is based on the fact that FIR No. 05 of 2025, which was registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Mumbai, was filed before the one in Assam.
What happened so far
On Tuesday, the Gauhati High Court approved interim bail for Ashish during the proceedings of his anticipatory bail petition, instructing him to report to the investigating officer within ten days. His legal representatives contended that their client did not make any statements during the show, and the accusations outlined in the FIR pertained solely to the co-accused individuals.
The FIR was filed by the Guwahati Police following a complaint from an individual on February 10, encompassing various provisions of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhtia (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
On February 18, the Supreme Court provided interim protection from arrest to Ranveer in response to his remarks made during a YouTube show, which were described as "vulgar" and indicative of a "dirty mind," thereby bringing shame to society.
