Armaan Malik Addresses Critics: 'In Bollywood, Song Choices Are Limited'
12 days ago | 5 Views
Singer Armaan Malik, famous for his catchy songs like Bol Do Na Zara, Main Rahoon Yaa Naa Rahoon, and Butta Bomma, recently spoke up about the criticism he's been facing and the fans who are asking for the “old Armaan” to return.
Armaan talks about the power of working quietly
On March 12, Armaan took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to critics who were calling out his song selections, saying he only sings easy songs. He shared, “Working quietly is harder than it looks. It takes years of patience and grit to get to the point where your talent and effort get noticed. Until then, it’s a silent struggle – a personal fight within yourself.”
He reminisced about starting his singing journey at just eight years old, landing his first song at 18, dreaming of singing in English by 14, and finally dropping his debut single at 24—emphasizing that everything happens in its own time. In response to the criticism about his music choices, Armaan mentioned the need to adapt to change, stating, “People keep saying: ‘We want the old Armaan Malik... the Bollywood one.’ But just like every app needs updates, and it takes time to get used to them, growth is similar. Over time, things improve. Every artist grows, shedding their old selves to become a better version.”

He highlighted how diverse his music is, saying, “Every artist has their own unique shades, just like a rainbow.” He went on to mention, “People are always asking, ‘Are you just going to stick to singing in a low scale?’ I urge those folks to check out Pehla Pyaar.” He added, “Some ask if I only do easy songs, so I’d love for you to listen to Humnawaa with AR Rahman and Ghalib Hona Hai with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.”
A fan pointed out the similarities between his track "Control" and "Bol Do Na Zara," expressing concern that he might lose his vibe while exploring different genres. Armaan responded, saying, “If only filmmakers provided composers with briefs for those kinds of songs, we’d get to sing more of them!” He added, “In Bollywood, it’s not about us picking the songs; it’s more like the songs pick us.”
When Armaan first dropped his English song "You," he got some backlash from folks saying things like, "Stick to Hindi, you're way better at it." But the singer shrugged it off and didn't let it get to him.
