Arjun Kapoor reflects on Sridevi's legacy, calling her "ma'am" in heartfelt tribute

Arjun Kapoor has maintained a strong bond with his father, esteemed producer Boney Kapoor; however, he has seldom discussed his late stepmother, the iconic actress Sridevi. In a recent interview with Galatta India, Arjun made a rare reference to her, albeit briefly.
What Arjun said
Arjun mentioned Sridevi while discussing Satish Kaushik's 1993 film, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, which was produced by Boney Kapoor and featured Arjun's uncle, Anil Kapoor, alongside “Sridevi ma'am.” He reflected, “My entire childhood revolved around the set of Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. Even by contemporary standards, it remains one of the largest productions we have ever undertaken. The film had a budget of ₹10 crore in 1992 and starred Anil Kapoor, Sridevi Ma'am, and Jackie Shroff, with Anupam Kher portraying the antagonist. Notably, there was a pigeon named Django that Anil Chachu (uncle) interacted with, which was my favourite character at that time.”
It is noteworthy that Sridevi was in a relationship with Boney during this period, despite his marriage to Arjun's mother, Mona. Boney divorced Mona in 1996 and subsequently married Sridevi the same year. At that time, Arjun was just 10 years old, while his younger sister, Anshula Kapoor, was five. Boney and Sridevi later welcomed two daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, both of whom are now actors.
Arjun after Sridevi's death
Arjun was present at his father's side during the tragic incident of Sridevi's accidental drowning in 2018. He later expressed that he felt a sense of protectiveness towards his stepsisters, Janhvi and Khushi, following the event, and that he and Anshula developed a closer bond with them. Arjun experienced the loss of his own mother, Mona, to cancer in 2012, just days prior to his anticipated debut as an actor in Habib Faisal's romantic thriller, Ishaqzaade. Interestingly, Sridevi passed away mere months before the release of Janhvi's first film, Shashank Khaitan's romantic drama, Dhadak.
Arjun is set to appear next in Mudassar Aziz's romantic comedy, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, alongside Bhumi Pednekar and Rakul Preet Singh. The film is scheduled to be released in theatres on February 21.
