Bollywood star Arjun Kapoor has frequently faced criticism from trolls who question his acting skills and his privileged upbringing. In a chat with Chalchitra Talks, Arjun shared his experiences with online negativity, admitting that while he’s built up a tough exterior, it still gets to him at times.

Arjun Kapoor admits that he's become an easy target for online trolls

When asked about how he handles online trolls, Arjun shared, “I’ve developed a thick skin because I understand it’s all about clickbait. If you check out the pages that mention or tag me, they get a lot of attention. They seem to enjoy drawing in an audience by using my name, making me an easy target. I’ve learned to take it all in stride and haven’t really retaliated. I handle criticism pretty well, which some people take advantage of.”

He also mentioned that while he used to view negative comments as “just words, just air,” he’s come to realize that perceptions have gained significance for him over the past couple of years. He admitted to feeling like he’s been “unfairly targeted” at times.

Arjun then discussed his career decisions, highlighting films like Finding Fanny, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, and Ishaqzaade. He emphasized that he’s always prioritized performance over box office success. He also talked about collaborating with esteemed directors like Raj Kumar Gupta for India’s Most Wanted and Ashutosh Gowariker for Panipat. However, since his films didn’t perform well before the pandemic, he faced a downturn at the box office.

Arjun Kapoor admits that trolling does have an impact on him

Arjun shared his thoughts on how people often see him as just someone’s son, a perception that intensified during the Covid period when folks were looking for someone to blame. He mentioned that perception can be quite misleading, something he’s come to understand more deeply over the past couple of years. Although he tries not to let it get to him—claiming he has a thick skin—it still impacts him. He’s explored various genres in his work, admitting he wasn’t great in every film, but he’s noticed that his peers have become more consistent after a shaky start.

He highlighted how Saif Ali Khan is now regarded as a ‘phenomenal actor,’ despite being jobless for the first few years of his career. Arjun reflected on how the acting scene has changed, with a greater emphasis on skill and performance, especially with the growth of OTT platforms. Looking back at his early days, he noted that actors used to focus on mastering dance, speaking Hindi fluently, and building impressive physiques like Hrithik Roshan. However, he recognized that the industry’s standards have evolved, now embracing a wider and more sophisticated definition of what it means to be a successful actor.

He also mentioned Zahan Kapoor, Gourav Adarsh, Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor, and Rajkummar Rao as examples of the new generation, who may have started with mainstream goals but are now prioritizing their craft as they advance in their careers.

Arjun Kapoor's next film

Arjun's most recent appearance was in the movie Mere Husband Ki Biwi, alongside Rakul Preet Singh and Bhumi Pednekar. Unfortunately, the film didn't do well at the box office. Up next, he will be featured in Boney Kapoor’s No Entry 2, sharing the screen with Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh in the main roles.
