The quote originated from a recent remark made by Jonah Platt, the son of Marc Platt, the producer of Snow White.

About the controversy

The situation began when Ariana shared a quote stating, "Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged." This remark was originally made by Jonah Platt, the son of Marc Platt, the producer of Snow White. Recently, he had expressed criticism towards Rachel for her political statements, suggesting that such comments have negatively impacted the box office success of the Disney remake.

Several users criticised Ariana for bullying her West Side Story co-star Rachel instead of standing beside her. Many took to X to lash out at Ariana, and said that Rachel deserved better in the industry.

Ariana's clarification

Ariana has since removed the post and provided clarification on her Instagram Stories concerning the matter. She stated, “I frequently share quotes and found this one to be significant. I acknowledge that I did not research the source of this quote, nor was I aware of its implications until it was brought to my attention. This is not the first instance in which I have addressed the topic of narcissism, and it likely won't be the last; however, I will ensure to verify its origins beforehand in the future.”

Rachel and Ariana appeared together in director Steven Spielberg's 2021 adaptation of West Side Story. The film received widespread critical praise, and Ariana earned an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role.
