Influencer Apoorva Mukhija has stepped up to defend her friend Rida Tharana after Rida faced backlash from some social media users. In a recent video addressing the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent, Apoorva mentioned a friend who allegedly practiced black magic on her. While she didn’t specify any names, the online community directed their criticism towards Rida.
Apoorva Mukhija stands up for Rida Tharana
Apoorva took to her Instagram Stories to express, "Since my video went up, there’s been a wave of assumptions and negativity. I truly appreciate the support, but this isn’t what I wanted. I just wanted to share my story and my feelings—nothing else. So let’s avoid jumping to conclusions or spreading any negativity." She also shared a photo of herself hugging Rida, captioning it, "Only love for @rida.tharana ❤️."
Rida Tharana also addressed the negativity
Rida also hopped on her Instagram Stories to share a message after facing some backlash. She opened up about caring for her unwell mother and mentioned that she has been supporting her family since last year. "If I'm not working, it feels like everything comes to a halt. My mom really dislikes the city, and we've done everything we can to help her feel at ease. One of those efforts was inviting friends over for iftar, and for the first time in ages, I saw her smile, laugh, and truly enjoy herself," she shared.
Rida talked about Apoorva
When it comes to Apoorva, she mentioned, "I’m not interested in giving endless explanations. This is Apoorva's moment to shine, and I refuse to be in the background. I feel like everything I've done is being taken out of context and exaggerated! It's all up for misinterpretation. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: there's a lot of negativity towards women. Women thriving, living, laughing, and just being themselves."
Rida shared that the past couple of months have been tough for her as well. "If I wanted to fake anything, I could have done it in a hundred easier ways. If you think I’ve been pretending for two years, then trust me, two months wouldn’t have been difficult. So no, I’m done explaining myself. To those who want to stick around, thank you. And to those who don’t see me for who I am, feel free to unfollow. I’m not here to be flawless. I’m not after fame! I appreciate the love I already have. All I’ve ever wanted is to make enough to support my loved ones, travel, and live a peaceful life filled with love. That’s all. So, God, put me through whatever you want, but also give me the strength to get through it. I’m tired, but I’m still here. Only love," she concluded.
"Also!! I don’t walk into fire knowing it’ll hurt. But sometimes, I accidentally stumble into it! And when I do, it burns. No matter how hard I try to avoid negativity, some things still manage to get to me, and I won’t lie, a few have really broken me. Being in a different country all alone hasn’t been easy. The anxiety has been overwhelming. But what keeps me going is knowing that some of you still support me. I didn’t see that coming. So to those who stayed, who believed, and who chose understanding over judgment...thank you. Really," she wrapped up her message.
Apoorva mentioned her experience of going to see a tarot card reader
In her YouTube video titled Till I Say It Is, Apoorva shared her experience of seeing a tarot card reader following the controversy. She mentioned that the reader provided a description of the individual who allegedly performed black magic on her. Apoorva remarked, "It completely aligns with the person I suspected of doing kala jaadu (black magic) to me."
Apoorva, the hidden gem of India’s Got Talent
Apoorva was one of the comedians who appeared in the contentious episode of India’s Got Latent. She was on the panel when YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made his provocative remarks about parents and sex.
Although Ranveer faced significant backlash, a clip featuring Apoorva also drew criticism from social media users. Comedian Samay Raina, who created the well-known YouTube series, eventually removed all episodes of the show. Samay, Ranveer, Apoorva, and others involved are now dealing with several FIRs due to their comments during the episode.
