As parents, it’s our job to support our kids if they have a talent. When Gukesh started his chess journey, I was able to focus on my career during the week, but on weekends, I’d take him to tournaments. As he started to improve and gain ratings, we had to travel internationally. One of us had to make the choice to go with him for tournaments while the other stayed back to keep things running at home. I decided to travel with him, and my wife took on the responsibility of supporting us financially. It’s just what any parent would do; it’s not a big deal for us.”

Rajinikanth had to leave his esteemed position as an ENT surgeon, while Padma, a microbiologist, stepped up to support the family.
