S. Shankar has addressed his previous remarks following comments made by fellow filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who suggested that the director of Game Changer is appealing to an audience that is overly reliant on Instagram Reels. According to The Hindu, Shankar informed reporters in Chennai that he did not equate his filmmaking approach with Instagram Reels.

What Shankar said

Shankar stated, "I did not mention Instagram Reels at all. It is essential to communicate ideas swiftly and effectively. When we fail in this regard, we risk allowing the audience to become distracted. A film must maintain engagement throughout, and Editor Reuben has accomplished this in Game Changer. That was my intended message. I was unaware of Anurag's comments, and I find it surprising, especially since it originated from a sincere perspective."

He further elaborated, "The current audience is quite impatient; within ten minutes, they may pull out their phones to comment on the film via social media. Distraction occurs rapidly. Therefore, the editing of a film must be captivating. Upon viewing Game Changer, one will recognize that it is a fast-paced film that keeps viewers focused. Ruben's editing work in the film is exceptional."

What Anurag had said

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag Kashyap had remarked, "I came across Shankar sir's statement indicating that today's audience has a diminished attention span and that they engage with Reels. I am uncertain about the implications of that statement. We will only understand it once we see the film."

He continued, "Many filmmakers are adopting this mindset, suggesting that their films are akin to Reels because that is what audiences desire. Filmmakers who once inspired me as creators are now resembling caterers. The moment one begins to think solely about what the audience wants to see, that marks the onset of decline. The audience is not a singular entity; it is a vast sea of individuals. There is an audience for everything."

Game Changer is an action drama featuring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, and it is scheduled for release soon.
