Anupam Kher is undeniably one of the most adaptable and seasoned actors in Bollywood today. Whether he is featured in a captivating crime thriller, a heartfelt family drama, or a politically charged historical narrative, the 70-year-old performer consistently impresses audiences, including younger viewers. Consequently, the third edition of the OTTplay Awards recognized him with the Best Actor (Male) Critics Award in 2025.

Kher received this esteemed honor for his performances in Netflix's "Vijay 69" and ZEE5's "The Signature," both of which premiered in 2024. The film directed by Akshay Roy portrays the journey of a spirited widower with ambitious dreams, who, at 69, is resolute in his quest to complete a demanding triathlon, demonstrating that age is merely a number. In contrast, the film directed by Gajendra Ahire narrates the story of an elderly man named Arvind, whose life is turned upside down when his wife falls into a coma. As she battles for her survival, Arvind must summon the strength to reconstruct their life together.

Anupam Kher received his award from Kumar Taurani, CEO of Tips Industries, and Avinash Mudaliar, CEO of OTTplay, during a ceremony hosted by Aparshakti Khurana and Kubra Sait. He expressed his joy by stating, "Receiving awards is a wonderful feeling. Even at this stage of my life and after many years of experience, I find myself in competition with my own past. Like Vijay from the film Vijay 69, I intend to continue working even at the age of 99."

In an exclusive interview with OTTplay in October 2024, filmmaker Gajendra Ahire shared that collaborating with Anupam Kher was a remarkable experience. He noted that when he presented the story to Kher, the actor listened intently and became so engaged with the narrative that he ultimately took on the role of co-producer for the film The Signature.

The OTTplay Awards 2025 attracted prominent figures from India's OTT industry, celebrating the theme "One Nation, One Award." The event honoured various celebrities, including Kajol, Kani Kasruti, Priyamani, Rakesh Roshan, Nimisha Sanjayan, and Manoj Bajpayee, among others, showcasing talent from the Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada film industries.

Co-presented by Real Juice and Kuhl, and powered by Stock Gro, the OTTplay Awards 2025 was a marquee event held in collaboration with HT City. Flipkart Spoyl served as the exclusive style partner, while D Pauls was the travel partner. Amante contributed as the premium lingerie partner, Propshop as the real estate partner, and Aussie Lamb and Krishinet Fiber as special partners. UDigital acted as the ISP and IPTV partner, with Hyperlink serving as the event partner.
