On September 3, an event was organized for IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack where the full cast including the filmmaker Anubhav Sinha was present. During the event, one journalist asked Sinha about Netflix India being summoned by the government regarding the series issue.

During the event, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha engaged in a slightly heated argument with a journalist when he was asked about Netflix India being summoned by the government regarding the IC814 Kandahar Hijack controversy.

To this, he said, "Apne show dekha hai? (Have you watched the show?) I won't answer you because you haven't watched the show."

Netflix confirms 'disclaimer updated' to include real, code names of hijackers

Confirming in a statement, the content Vice President of Netflix India said that the disclaimer of the series has been updated. "For the benefit of audiences unfamiliar with the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, the opening disclaimer has been updated to include the real and code names of the hijackers," she stated. 

According to the reports, a farmer and president of Hindu Sena, Surjit Singh Yadav, filed a PIL against the makers of the web series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack on September 2. 

“The distortion of crucial facts about the real identities of the hijackers not only misrepresents historical events but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misinformation, warranting interference of this court to prevent further public misunderstanding and potential harm,” the petition read.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack plot

Helmed by Anubhav Sinha, the series captures the moments when an Indian plane was hijacked. It revolves around the struggles of the passengers and the airplane crew as they fight against the hijackers after being taken hostage for seven harrowing days. 

The flight from Kathmandu to Delhi was hijacked and taken to Kandahar before reaching its destination. The incident has sent chilling waves across the country and sparked global uproar as they await updates on the safety of the crew and passengers on the plane.
