Anu Singh Chaudhary Criticizes OTT Giants for Overlooking Writers in Recent Announcements

Anu Singh Chaudhary, one of the industry's most renowned and outspoken screenwriters, isn’t afraid to speak her mind about the glaring issues in the entertainment world—especially when it comes to the treatment of writers. Known for her exceptional work on shows like Scoop, Aarya, Eclipse, Grahan, The Good Girl Show, and Mrs., Anu has always been a staunch advocate for the recognition and rights of writers in the industry.

In her recent media interaction, Anu didn’t hold back, taking aim at how writers are often sidelined by OTT platforms, producers, and even actors. Her sharp words came in response to a particular incident involving two major OTT giants. Expressing her disappointment, she said, “I am not going to take names, but just a couple of days ago, a major OTT platform announced a string of new shows which we have created, but where were the writers in all the buzz? How many writers were there? Did anyone bother to call them? Long format is a writer’s medium, yet no one even bothers to acknowledge them.”

For the uninitiated, Netflix and Amazon MX Player recently unveiled their entire slate of program for 2025, but conspicuously absent from the spotlight were the writers who created them.

Anu’s remarks highlight a significant concern within the industry, where the individuals responsible for crafting the dialogue—the screenwriters—often remain unacknowledged. She elaborated, “The most frustrating aspect is that the lines or dialogues delivered on-screen are penned by someone who deserves recognition. It would be beneficial to establish a connection with them, perhaps by inviting them to the red carpet and standing alongside them. Furthermore, when media tags are created, it would be appropriate to include their names.” Her statements serve as a plea for increased visibility and respect for screenwriters, who, in her view, merit celebration alongside actors, directors, and producers.

Anu Singh Chaudhary is not only a distinguished writer but also an engaged member of the Screenwriters Rights Association of India (SRAI) and the Screenwriters Association (SWA). These organizations are committed to advocating for the rights of screenwriters, including equitable compensation and appropriate acknowledgment.
