Ranbir Kapoor's Animal made Rs. 920 crore at the box office worldwide and became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2023. However, despite being such a massive success, the film received critical reviews from the audiences. A fair share of people labeled the film as misogynistic and brutally violent. However, Bobby Deol's character Abrar Haque garnered much love. But the actor has recently revealed that he had to wait so long to begin the shooting of his part, that he almost thought he lost the project.
Bobby Deol recalls his long wait to begin his shoot
Recently, while speaking to Humans of Bombay, Bobby shared that he had to wait for almost one and a half years to start shooting for his character Abrar Haque in Animal. Due to the long wait, he thought that he lost the film, which made him super upset. While remembering, Deol shared that the crew was busy shooting with Ranbir Kapoor for a long time, as the film is almost three-hour-fifty-minute long. Hence, sometimes it made him think that they might have changed their minds to work with him.
“I waited 1.5 years to shoot the film. The film is 3.5 hours long, so they were shooting with Ranbir for a long time, and during that period, I kept thinking, ‘Are they going to change their mind? Will they suddenly say they don’t need me?’ Those thoughts crossed my mind, but Sandeep Reddy is a sweetheart. I learned sign language for the role. It became a huge success, although I never imagined it would become a cult hit, I had a gut feeling about it”, Bobby said.
How did Bobby Deol land the film Animal?
While remembering how he got the opportunity to work in Animal, Lord Bobby recalled that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga was quite impressed with his look when he participated in the Celebrity Cricket League. Vanga requested him to transform into that look again for Animal. “I got a message from him. He introduced himself and told me he wanted to meet me for a film. I thought, ‘Is it really him?’ I called and arranged the meeting”, Bobby added.
