On August 20, 2024, Prime Video will debut the much-awaited documentary series Angry Young Man. On Tuesday, the star-studded trailer launch got a boost with Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar gracing the event and coming together after many years. At the event, the screenwriter turned lyricist gave the greatest news of all time: to reunite one last time after 37 years for a film.
Salim-Javed to reunite for a new film
Akhtar, on an ending note, made the announcement, stating, "Now let me tell you that we are going to write now. I have spoken to him (Salim). Ek picture bass hum, ek aur likh de. Uss zamane mein bhi humari price zyada thi, iss zamane mein toh bohot bhi zyada hogi. Woh dekh lijiyega. (Now let me tell you that we are going to write again. I have spoken to him (Salim); let's just write one more film together. Even back then, our price was high, and now it will be even higher. Just keep that in mind.)"
The last project Salim-Javed worked on together was Mr. India, which came out in 1987.
Legacy of Salim-Javed in Bollywood
For the uninitiated, the writers duo has been working together as dynamic screenwriters in Bollywood since 1971. They are the men behind the blockbusters Zanjeer, Sholay, Don, Deewar, and Dostana, to name a few.
This three-part documentary series chronicles Salim-Javed in a way that is both intimate and informative. By reimagining the Bollywood formula, popularising action-dramas, and introducing "angry young men" heroes to an industry that had hitherto focused on romance, they shook up Indian cinema in the 1970s.
Production and direction debut details
Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, Tiger Baby, and executive producers Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti produce Angry Young Men, which marks Namrata Rao's directorial debut.
