Angelina Jolie appears to have discovered a sense of peace regarding her previous marriages, despite the ongoing legal challenges with her former spouse, Brad Pitt.

Jolie's first marriage was to actor Jonny Lee Miller, lasting from 1996 to 2000. Following her divorce, she entered into a marriage with Billy Bob Thornton, which ended in 2003. In 2014, after a decade-long relationship, she married Brad Pitt at their estate, Chateau Miraval. The couple filed for divorce in 2019, and after nearly ten years of legal disputes, their divorce was finalized in December of the previous year.

During the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Wednesday, where she received the Maltin Modern Master Award, Jolie remarked, “Yeah, it's Jonny. I just talked to him. I love that — I get to see my ex-husband with 2,000 people.”

Jolie expressed that she maintains a ‘wonderful relationship with Jonny.’

The Academy Award-winning actress made these remarks during a Q&A session with film critic Leonard Maltin while they viewed her first significant role in the 1995 film Hackers, which featured her alongside Jonny Lee Miller.

“I don't typically watch my own films, so I don't believe I've seen it since the premiere, but I do have a wonderful relationship with Jonny. We now have sons of the same age, and I am delighted to have shared that experience,” she stated.

Miller subsequently married actress Michele Hicks in 2008, and they welcomed their son, Buster, that same year. Buster, now 16, is the same age as Jolie and Pitt’s youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne. Miller and Hicks eventually divorced in 2018.

Jolie felt ‘being recognized’ as a director

The Santa Barbara Film Festival honored her with this prestigious accolade, presented by renowned director Ava DuVernay. “I reflect on my life and all the opportunities I almost let slip away,” she confessed.

Jolie has notably garnered critical acclaim for her directorial efforts, especially for the film Maria, which has achieved Oscar nominations. She expressed, “It’s the best. I love directing. I prefer directing. It’s as if, when you have the right team, you trust your department heads, you cherish your actors, you are passionate about your work, and you are all united in the process.”

She further remarked, “Experiencing success and receiving recognition, while being compared to others, made me feel quite uneasy — I went through a very dark period during that time.”
