Angelina Jolie's Oscar Dreams for Maria Were Set Up to Fail Due to Her Demeanor
1 month ago | 5 Views
Actor Angelina Jolie experienced disappointment after not receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her praised performance in the biopic, Maria. Reports indicate that she is struggling to cope with this oversight, and a recent article suggests that her chances were 'doomed from the start' due to her demeanour and the film's marketing approach.
Angelina Jolie's pursuit of an Oscar was seemingly destined for failure from the outset
Despite Angelina's hopeful entry into the American awards season of 2025, she has yet to secure any victories. In Touch Weekly cited an insider who speculated on the reasons behind this outcome. “Primarily, what hinders Angelina is her nearly complete absence of humour or levity when discussing this film. Coupled with the film's inherent somberness, there is a pervasive sense of sadness surrounding her that detracts from the enjoyment,” the source asserted.
The insider further noted that Angelina's naturally reserved demeanour, along with the film's dark themes, may have contributed to her unfavourable prospects. “She possesses a sombre personality, and while Maria Callas' music is uplifting, her narrative is not,” the source remarked, adding, “Her commitment to this awards campaign has been lacking because she was aware of the unattainable expectations placed upon her. This endeavour was destined for failure from the outset.”
The 2025 Oscar nominations
The nominees for the 2025 Academy Awards were announced on January 23. Despite expectations for a nomination, Angelina did not make the cut in the Best Actress category. The nominees featured Cynthia Ervo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Mikey Madison (Enora), Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here), and Demi Moore (The Substance). After her recent win for Best Actress - Drama at the Golden Globes earlier this month, Demi Moore is considered the leading contender.
Angelina Jolie's upcoming work
Angelina Jolie is set to appear next in the film Stitches, which tells the story of an American filmmaker embarking on a journey upon her arrival in Paris for Fashion Week. The film is both written and directed by Alice Winocour and features performances by Louis Garrel and Ella Rumpf. Although it is scheduled for release this year, a specific date has yet to be disclosed.
