In 2022, the debut film Liger featuring Ananya Panday and Vijay Deverakonda premiered in theaters. The producers had significant hopes for this pan-Indian project; however, it ultimately underperformed at the box office. In addition to its commercial failure, the film became a target for ridicule among netizens on social media platforms. Now, three years following its lackluster performance, Ananya's father, actor Chunky Panday, has shared his thoughts on the film. He disclosed that Ananya felt 'uncomfortable' while working on Liger. Further details are provided below.

Chunky Panday recalls advising Ananya Panday for Liger

Ananya commenced her career in Bollywood in 2019 with Karan Johar's film Student of the Year 2, where she starred alongside Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria. Subsequently, she appeared in movies such as Pati Patni Aur Woh, Khaali Peeli, and Gehraaiyan. She later participated in Liger, a film that was primarily commercial in nature. In a recent interview, Chunky disclosed that Ananya felt somewhat uneasy about her role in Liger, as she believed she was too young for the part.

Chunky Panday shared with Mashable India, "When she inquired whether she should take on this film, she expressed concerns about her age, stating, ‘Papa, I am too young to do this.’ I encouraged her to proceed, noting that it was a commercial project and a significant film. However, perhaps she was correct in her assessment; she was indeed quite young for such a role. She felt uneasy and mentioned that she might be too young for this opportunity. At that moment, she seemed uncertain."

Chunky Panday would have said no to Call Me Bae

He further stated that had she inquired about participating in Call Me Bae, he would have declined. The Housefull actor remarked, "From that moment forward, I refrained from exerting any pressure on her. Perhaps I was mistaken. I adhere to traditional values. I am unfamiliar with any other approach. If she had approached me asking, ‘Papa, should I take on Bae?’ I would have advised against it."

In the meantime, it is important to highlight that Ananya garnered significant acclaim for her role as Bae in Prime Video's Call Me Bae. Given the overwhelming success of the first season, the producers are now preparing for the second season.

Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh also featured a notable cameo by Mike Tyson. The film achieved a box office collection of Rs 41.17 crore in India.
