Amitabh Bachchan – a regular at the Kolkata International Film Festival – gave the event a miss in 2023. Though CM Mamata Banerjee invited him, he could not attend due to health reasons. This year, Mamata not only invited him but asked him to recite a poem when they met at the gala reception of Ambani heir Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding in Mumbai recently.

The KIFF will be held in December. Bengal CM Mamata invited Amitabh to attend the festival. Amitabh gave his words to Mamata that he would definitely come this time.

Mamata went to Mumbai to attend the wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant last week. Big B with his family was also there. Mamata there talked with Amitabh. Mamata also praised Ambani's hospitality at Kolkata Airport on Saturday.

Mamata said, “Mukesh Ambani and his family showed great respect to me. I met many people including Amitabh Bachchan. I requested him to attend the KIFF to be held on December 4.”

What did Big B say? Mamata said, “He said that there was no need for him to go there and he delivered all his speeches. I told him we would all like to hear his recitation of poems. I also told him that his presence would be much desired.”

However, Mamata did not meet Shah Rukh Khan, who was also absent at last year's KIFF due to the release of his daughter's film. It remains to see whether he can be present this year.

Mamata also met Sachin Tendulkar, Vasundhara Raje, Uddhav Thackeray, and Sharad Pawar.
