The disparity in earnings between actresses and their male counterparts is significant, with women often receiving only a small percentage of what leading men earn. Additionally, actresses typically incur higher expenses related to their appearance, including clothing, makeup, skincare, and haircare. Consequently, to sustain a glamorous lifestyle, they often rely on paid opportunities such as store openings, events, performances, and collaborations on social media. These avenues are essential for generating income, according to the actress, who will soon appear alongside Darling Krishna in The Father.
"Anyone claiming to earn a reasonable income from the film industry is not being truthful. The compensation we receive is not disbursed in a lump sum. Furthermore, there are instances where the agreed-upon terms are overlooked. For example, when collaborating with certain production companies, there is an expectation to operate on trust rather than formal contracts, leading to verbal agreements. I have frequently lost track of my initial requests, only to find later that they assert all dues have been settled, which is often not the case. The delays in payments create significant challenges in maintaining accurate records," states Amrutha.
The actress emphasizes that her experiences in the film industry have highlighted the significance of financial independence. Throughout her career, Amrutha expresses gratitude for having participated in several successful films that have achieved commercial success. However, she admits that her savings primarily consist of investments in her wardrobe. “I regret mentioning this, but if I struggle financially, one can only imagine the difficulties faced by others. Many individuals are reluctant to discuss their financial challenges openly,” she remarks.
