Kangana Ranaut on drug, alcohol, and violence-based songs
In an interview with Agenda Aaj Tak, Kangana discussed the prevalence of songs that focus on themes of drugs, alcohol, and violence. When questioned about the possibility of addressing this issue in Parliament, she emphasized that the responsibility also lies with the public.
Kangana remarked, "Artistic expression is independent of external factors. Himachal folk music features numerous songs of this nature. In the realm of art, emotions are paramount. Everyone has their own perspective. However, regarding issues such as substance abuse, it is not solely the government's duty; the general public shares this responsibility as well."
Kangana's remarks emerged in the context of Diljit Dosanjh's recent discussions regarding songs centred on alcohol. While in Hyderabad for his Dil-Luminati Tour, the global artist was advised against referencing alcohol in his music and promoting it. In response, Diljit, who abstains from alcohol, suggested that instead of promoting such themes, alcohol shops should be closed nationwide.
During his performance in Hyderabad, Diljit Dosanjh altered the lyrics of his songs, replacing the terms 'daaru' and 'theka' with 'coke' and 'hotel', respectively. Similarly, in Ahmedabad, he refrained from performing any songs that featured alcohol-related themes. For those unfamiliar, his upcoming performances include Chandigarh on December 14 and Mumbai on December 19, with the Indian segment of the Dil-Luminati Tour concluding in Guwahati on December 29.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Kangana Ranaut will be next seen in Emergency where she will portray the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film is set to hit the theatres on January 17, 2025.
