Director Amar Kaushik's recent comments regarding Dinesh Vijan's comparison of actress Shraddha Kapoor's laughter to that of a "chudail (witch)" have not been well received by fans. During an appearance on Komal Nahta's podcast, Game Changers, Amar reflected on the casting process for the Stree franchise, specifically mentioning Shraddha's involvement.

What Amar Kaushik said about Shraddha Kapoor's laugh

Amar stated, "The entire credit for Shraddha's casting goes to Dinesh Vijan... He met her on a flight, and when he heard her laugh, he remarked, 'Amar, when she laughs, it’s just like Stree, almost like a witch.'"

He continued, "I’m not entirely sure what he said—whether it was 'witch' or something else... When I first met her, I asked her to laugh, but she didn’t use that laugh, as she wasn’t portraying a character that would laugh in that manner."

Internet hasn't reacted well to Amar's remarks

A clip from the interview was posted on X (formerly Twitter), prompting backlash from users. One individual commented, "Hey @AmarKaushik, it seems you've forgotten who contributed to the success of #Stree2! You rely on @ShraddhaKapoor for publicity, yet you mock her behind the scenes? That’s disrespectful. Acknowledge the talent that drives your success." Another user remarked, "These misogynistic men will never appreciate her work or acting; this is how they speak!"

A supporter of Shraddha expressed, "Whenever I watch interviews featuring her, I notice she often encounters disrespectful individuals. I perceive their condescending remarks and actions, and while I sometimes wonder if it's just my perception, I realize they are indeed shameless. However, her excessive kindness seems to give them the opportunity to behave this way!" Another individual commented on social media, "The guy was trying too hard to be humorous but ended up being quite awkward." A different fan remarked, "I, along with others I know, watched Stree 1 and Stree 2 solely because of SHRADDHA KAPOOR."

Regarding the Stree franchise, the first film was released in theaters in 2018, followed by its sequel, Stree 2, which premiered on August 15 of the previous year. Directed by Amar Kaushik, this horror-comedy features Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi in prominent roles. Additionally, the creators have confirmed that a third installment is in development, with the script already written.
