On Friday, Allu Arjun responded to the tragic news regarding the death of a fan and the hospitalization of a young boy due to a stampede at the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule, which occurred on December 4. The actor announced a donation of ₹25 lakh to the affected family, assuring that he would take care of their medical expenses. Nevertheless, the online community expressed dissatisfaction, criticizing him for failing to issue an apology regarding the incident.
Internet reacts to Allu Arjun’s video
Reactions from the online community to Allu Arjun's video were mixed. One user commented on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I am astonished that he conveyed his condolences and offered financial assistance but did not apologize. I anticipated an apology throughout the entire video. This is quite disappointing on his part.” Another user echoed this sentiment, remarking, “He mentioned everything except 'I'm sorry.'”
A user on X expressed disapproval of the actor for posting a video 48 hours after the incident and following the filing of a case against him, highlighting that the video appeared to be highly polished. They remarked, “After 48 hours of the incident, he appeared in a promotional hoodie for his film, with well-applied makeup, appropriate lighting, professional color grading, background music, and NO APOLOGY.”
In the video, Arjun stated that he and the film's team "do not feel like celebrating the film's success." However, another individual noted that they had already cut a cake, set off fireworks, and celebrated prior to the release of his video. They commented, “At least consider social media before making such a video statement. You celebrated with fireworks, and these videos have gone viral across all social media platforms, yet you claim to be heartbroken and lacking the mood to celebrate.”
A fan expressed disappointment, stating, “As someone who supported your film, it is disheartening to criticize you in real life,” highlighting that the ₹25 lakh compensation for a death is a meager sum and noting the absence of an apology. A sarcastic remark followed, questioning, “Did Sam CS, DSP, or Ajneesh compose the background music for this video, brother?”
Another individual lamented, “Records may be fleeting, but character endures! You could have taken action immediately after the incident, yet you chose to send your team to the hospital only after the victim filed a complaint, while you celebrated with fireworks until late at night. You have lost your humanity, @alluarjun.” A former admirer reflected on their changed perception of Arjun, stating, “I was a devoted fan. WAS. How difficult is it to apologize when one is in the wrong? This indicates a lack of concern, and it appears to be merely another public relations maneuver.”
An X user cautioned against idolizing celebrities, remarking, “I hope everyone realizes how insignificant you and your lives are to these stars. They will continue their lives regardless of your circumstances. While enjoying art and cinema is acceptable, elevating them to such heights that it jeopardizes your own well-being is both unnecessary and foolish. Fan culture as a trend—×.”
Arjun's supporters rallied around him, praising his actions and noting his commitment to assist the victim's family in any possible manner, which they deemed commendable.
Allu Arjun’s video
In a video lasting 3 minutes and 47 seconds, Arjun addressed the tragic incident involving a fan's death on Friday evening. He expressed, “Over the past two decades, I have attended nearly every film's premiere; such an occurrence has never transpired before. We are deeply saddened and shocked, and none of us feel inclined to celebrate. Our purpose in making films is to provide enjoyment for audiences in theaters, so to discover that an event like this has taken place… it is beyond words.”
A woman lost her life, and her son was hospitalized due to asphyxiation as the crowd surged at a theater during the premiere of Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, as reported by police to PTI on Thursday. A case has been filed against Arjun, his security personnel, and the theater management in relation to the woman's death, following a complaint from the victim's family.
Upon receiving the news, the film's producers, Mythri Movie Makers, along with Rashmika Mandanna, expressed their sorrow. The cinematography minister, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, announced that no further permissions would be granted for benefit shows in Telangana.
