Allu Arjun's attorney criticizes prison officials
Allu Arjun was taken into custody on Friday afternoon following the tragic death of a fan during a stampede at the premiere of his latest film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, the previous week. He was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court on Friday evening; however, the prison officials did not facilitate his release until Saturday morning.
"The High Court's order explicitly instructs the Superintendent of the jail to release Allu Arjun immediately, and the Superintendent has been directed to ensure this release. Yet, despite the order, he remains detained," his lawyer informed ANI.
In a statement to PTI following his client's release, Reddy remarked, "The government and the department should be held accountable for the failure to release the accused. The High Court's directive is unequivocal. Upon receipt of the order, the prison authorities were obligated to release him. Their non-compliance with this clear mandate constitutes illegal detention, and we will pursue legal action."
Actor Allu Arjun had initially been placed in 14 days of judicial custody by a lower court in Telangana before the High Court subsequently granted him interim bail, setting the bail amount at ₹50,000.
The Sandhya Theatre incident occurred on December 4
When Allu Arjun attended a screening of his latest film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, in Hyderabad.
A significant crowd had assembled to see the actor. Authorities have claimed that certain actions by the actor contributed to the death of Revathi, aged 35, and resulted in injuries to her son.
According to the police, "He arrived at the theatre, emerged from the sunroof of his vehicle, and began waving to the assembled crowd. This action drew a considerable number of people towards the main entrance of the theatre. Concurrently, his private security personnel began to push individuals aside to clear a path for his vehicle."
The police further stated, "His team was advised to return him due to the large gathering, but they failed to respond accordingly, and Allu Arjun remained inside the theatre for over two hours. Thus, it is evident that while adequate police arrangements were in place, it was his actions that precipitated this tragic event.
