Allu Arjun issued his first statement following his release from custody related to the tragic death of a fan during the premiere of his film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, last week. Addressing reporters outside the prison, the actor remarked, "I am a law-abiding citizen and will cooperate. I would like to once again express my condolences to the family. It was an unfortunate incident."
Allu Arjun's Arrest and Bail
The actor was taken into custody on Friday afternoon at his residence in Banjara Hills after a fan lost her life during the premiere of Pushpa 2. The incident occurred on December 4 at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, where a chaotic situation ensued following the arrival of Allu Arjun and his co-star Rashmika Mandanna. In the ensuing turmoil, 35-year-old Revathi tragically died, while her son remains hospitalized in critical condition. Allu Arjun was named in the FIR filed by the husband of the deceased.
A lower court initially placed the actor in 14-day judicial custody; however, the Telangana High Court later granted him interim bail for four weeks. Despite this, Allu Arjun's difficulties persisted as he remained in jail overnight.
Jail officials stated that they did not receive the bail order promptly, which delayed the actor's release. In response, Allu Arjun's attorney has condemned this as ‘illegal detention’ and indicated that they would pursue legal action.
Political Controversy Surrounding the Arrest
The high-profile nature of the arrest sparked a political controversy, with the BJP and BRS criticizing the ruling Congress in Telangana regarding the treatment of the actor. In response, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud asserted that the law applies equally to all individuals and will follow its due process.
