Payal Kapadia's film, All We Imagine As Light, brought pride to India with its nomination at the BAFTA Awards. The film received a nomination in the Best Film Not in the English Language category at the EE BAFTA Film Awards. The announcement of the nominations took place on Wednesday and was presented by actors Mia McKenna-Bruce and Will Sharpe.

Payal did not receive nominations in the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories at the BAFTAs. Her film, All We Imagine As Light, was longlisted in three categories, namely Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Not in the English Language, yet it secured only one nomination. The other contenders in the category include Emilia Perez, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, I'm Still Here, and Kneecap.

Previously, Payal Kapadia was nominated for Best Director at the Golden Globe Awards, where she was ultimately surpassed by Brady Corbet for his work on The Brutalist. Additionally, All We Imagine As Light was nominated in the Best Film Not in the English Language category but lost to Emilia Perez.

About All We Imagine As Light

All We Imagine As Light narrates the touching tale of two Malayali nurses, Prabha and Anu. Prabha's world is turned upside down when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, while Anu faces challenges in finding a suitable place to be intimate with her partner. Directed by Payal Kapadia, this tribute to Mumbai features performances by Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon. The film commenced its awards journey after securing the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival in May. It is available for streaming on Disney + Hotstar in India, where it premiered on January 3.

The BAFTA Film Awards will be streamed live and exclusively in India on Lionsgate Play on February 16.
