The clash between Bollywood and K-pop fans has been heating up ever since BLACKPINK’s Jennie teased her new track, Like Jennie, on Tuesday. Fans of Alia Bhatt noticed that the beat sounded a lot like her theme song from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which sparked some xenophobic and racist comments from Jennie’s supporters.

A lot of Jennie fans got really upset when Alia's fans pointed out some things, leading to a wave of posts on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) that insulted both the actress and India. Some people mocked Alia's appearance, sharing unflattering photos and calling her a 'nobody,' while others made racist comments about the country's cleanliness and education.
One furious Alia fan fired back on X, saying, “Do you even know who she is? Her movie RRR was nominated for an Oscar, and a song from it won a Golden Globe. She's a global brand ambassador for Gucci. What has your girl done? This diva made her country proud at the Met Gala, while your girl got trolled.”
Another person came to her defense, saying, “Kid Alia has way more acting experience than Jennie has in music, and it’s a hit song too. That track is by Pritam, and Alia played the role of Rani in the film. You’re directing your anger at the wrong person. Get a grip.”
One Reddit user mentioned they didn’t want to generalize but labeled K-pop fans as “some of the worst,” stating, “I don’t mean to generalize, but the K-pop and Taylor Swift fanbases are among the worst. K-pop fans don’t hold back. If it’s a guy, they’ll call him a creep without proof, and if it’s a girl, they’ll label her a pick-me and ugly. If it’s a person of color, it’s all about racism and sexism.”
One fan even tried to make sense of it, saying, “Why is Alia being criticized? She had no part in producing or singing it. Are these fools just attacking her for being in the project?” Another added, “Being a fan doesn’t mean you have to be disrespectful or racist. You can support Jennie without being ignorant. India has one of the largest entertainment industries, and Alia Bhatt is a major star. Focus on the music, not the hate.”
Something went down
Jennie's track has some thumping beats and vocals that remind people of Rani’s Theme from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Once the teaser was released, a lot of Bollywood fans noticed the resemblances. Jennie revealed that the complete song will be out on March 7, so it'll be interesting to see if there are any more connections to the theme song.
Alia was last spotted in Jigra and is set to appear in Alpha and Love & War soon. Jennie made her debut as a rapper with BLACKPINK back in 2016 and released her first solo track in 2018. In 2023, she stepped into acting, using the name Jennie Ruby Jane in the TV series The Idol.
