Ali Fazal mourns the loss of Val Kilmer

On Thursday, Ali posted on Instagram a photo of Val from one of his movies, accompanied by a touching tribute. He reminisced about receiving a significant compliment from Val regarding his performance in Victoria and Abdul.

“Rest in peace, Mr. Val Kilmer. I am writing this note because you were the first prominent actor to commend me for my portrayal of a real individual in Victoria and Abdul,” Ali expressed.

The actor added, “Hell I dare say, I know I got miles to go. But this from someone whose performance changed the way I saw acting at a time when I was lapping up the Brandos and the Pacinos of the world. You made a better Jim Morrison than Morrison that day for me... Live on, cuz this doesnt end - we are privileged because we are in mediums that linger longer than times assigned”.

Ali starred in Victoria and Abdul alongside actor Judi Dench. Adapted from author Shrabani Basu’s book by the same name and directed by British filmmaker Stephen Frears, the film was released in 2017. In the film, Ali portrays the character of Abdul Karim, a man from Agra who was appointed as an attendant to Queen Victoria and went on to become one of her closest confidantes.

Val Kilmer dies at 65

Val Kilmer, renowned for his performances in films like Batman Forever and Top Gun, passed away on April 1 at the age of 65. He gained prominence for his portrayal of the skilled naval aviator Tom "Iceman" Kazansky alongside Tom Cruise in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, informed The New York Times that he succumbed to pneumonia in Los Angeles. Although he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, she noted that he was cancer-free at the time of his passing.

In his later years, Val Kilmer was reportedly bedridden. His daughter confirmed that pneumonia was the cause of his death. Following his throat cancer diagnosis in 2014, sources close to the Kilmer family revealed that the treatment had drained him of energy, leaving him confined to bed for several years prior to his death, as reported by TMZ. An insider mentioned that Val "simply couldn’t keep fighting at the end," adding that "his body eventually shut down." They also indicated that he was "very frail at the end of his life," and his passing was not unexpected. Earlier this year, he had been hospitalized, and in the week leading up to his death, he was again admitted to a hospital in the Los Angeles area.
