Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna, who recently appeared in Chhaava, is set to make his debut in the Telugu film industry. He has been cast in a significant role in Mahakali, the inaugural female superhero film from the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU). Here is all the information we have regarding the film.

Akshaye Khanna roped in for Mahakali

Sources affiliated with the film's production have confirmed that Akshaye has been cast in a significant role in Mahakali. While they have not disclosed whether he will portray a villain or a hero, they informed Hindustan Times, “What we can share is that his character will bring intrigue and complexity to the expanding PVCU universe. His involvement will extend across several films in the franchise, making it an exciting addition. We hope Mahakali receives a positive response similar to that of HanuMan.”

Additionally, the source indicated that filming has not yet commenced, as Prasanth, the film's conceptualizer, and director Puja Aparna Kolluru are diligently working to finalize the cast and other essential details. “Prasanth is very selective about the lead casting, as this will be his first female superhero, which necessitates a unique charm while challenging conventional beauty standards. We anticipate that all details will be resolved soon, allowing the film to officially begin production,” the source stated.

About the pvcu

PVCU commenced last year with the release of Teja Sajja’s superhero film, HanuMan, which draws inspiration from the tales of Lord Hanuman. A sequel titled Jai Hanuman, featuring Rishab Shetty, is currently in development. The franchise will also introduce Mahakali, the third superhero film centered around Goddess Kali. Additionally, PVCU is set to produce Adhira, starring Dasari Kalyan and based on Lord Indra, along with an untitled project featuring Mokshagna Teja.

In an interview with HT last October following the announcement of Mahakali, Prasanth remarked, “While casting a prominent star for the role of Mahakali is no longer a challenge, that is not the primary concern. Since this film aims to confront beauty standards, I want to ensure that we do not contribute to perpetuating them.” At one point, Karthi and Ranveer Singh were also slated to appear in PVCU films, but those plans did not materialize.
