Akshay Kumar received acclaim for his role in the 2007 film Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Directed by Priyadarshan, this horror comedy showcased Akshay as Dr. Aditya Srivastav. The film achieved significant success at the box office. However, when Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was announced without Akshay, devoted fans of the series expressed their disappointment. In the subsequent installments, Kartik Aaryan took over Akshay's role. Recently, in an interview, Akshay disclosed the reasons for his absence from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, a fan inquired of Akshay Kumar regarding his absence from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3. The actor responded, "Beta, mujhe nikaal diya tha (I was removed). That's it." For those unfamiliar with the situation, there had been speculation regarding Akshay's potential cameo in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which he subsequently refuted, labeling it as 'fake news'.

In a recent interview with News18, Anees Bazmee discussed the challenges of creating new installments of Bhool Bhulaiyaa without Akshay Kumar. 

"Akshay ji delivered an outstanding performance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, making the idea of a sequel without him quite difficult. However, we approached Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 with great sincerity and passion, utilizing the resources we had. Upon its release, audiences embraced Kartik just as warmly as they had Akshay ji. I am eager to collaborate with him repeatedly, as he holds a very special place in my heart," the director remarked.

Akshay Kumar's upcoming project

Akshay Kumar is currently preparing for the upcoming release of his film, Sky Force. He has been actively promoting the movie alongside his co-star, Veer Pahariya, who is making his debut in Bollywood with this project. Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, Sky Force is scheduled to hit theaters on January 24, 2025. The cast also includes notable actors Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan.
