Akshay Kumar thanks PM Modi for honouring Sankaran Nair
PM Modi honored Sankaran for his resistance against British colonial rule following the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. While he did not specifically reference Kesari Chapter 2, these comments were made during his recent trip to Haryana, where he emphasized the importance of recognizing Sankaran Nair's contributions.
Akshay shared the video on X, expressing gratitude: “Thank you, Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, for acknowledging the remarkable Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his role in our struggle for independence. It is crucial for us as a nation, particularly the younger generation, to appreciate the courageous individuals who fought tirelessly for our freedom! Our Kesari Chapter 2 serves as a modest reminder that we must never take our liberty for granted!”
What did PM Modi say about Sankaran Nair?
PM Modi remarked that Baisakhi coincided with the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Referring to Sankaran, he noted, as reported by PTI, “Most of you may not be familiar with his name. However, he has recently gained significant attention. Nair Ji was a prominent lawyer who held a prestigious position within the British government at that time. He had the opportunity to enjoy power and all its associated luxuries.”
He continued, “He chose to raise his voice against British rule and resigned from his position. Although he hailed from Kerala, the tragic event occurred in Punjab. He took it upon himself to advocate for the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and his efforts profoundly challenged the foundations of the British Empire.”
